Press on the work of the International Campaign to End Honour Killing (ICEHK) on the Murderer of Suham Qairani (9th June 04) _POSTEDON Wednesday, October 06, 2004 - 12:41 PM

 

The international campaign to End Honour Killing has moved by the news of the murdering of the Kurdish woman named Suham Qairani on the 13th of April this year in Delft city in Netherlands.

In this regard the ICEHK campaign has decided side to side with the representative of the Organisation of women's Freedom in Iraq- Netherlands branch (OWFI) to raise the issue with the police in Amsterdam city, yet we have not received any response from them.

Asterah Fateh the representative of the OWFI has published a press on the condemnation of this crime, in a press that was published on 21st April 04.

Sawsan Salim has sent an open letter to the Netherlands's Government officials. The letter published widely to the Kurdish Media and the websites, it has received great support of the community who are outraged with this brutal crime.

Later the letter was published in English widely. As well as a request letter for appointment to meet the Netherlands ambassador was sent in June/2004 to raise the Honour Killing issues in Netherlands.

Our partner organisation's representative (OWFI) in the Netherlands have met with the Amsterdam police on the in May 04, Asterah Fateh and Hama Gaphor have 1 hour meeting with the police explaining the hostile environment against women in the Middle Eastern community.

Sawsan has spoke with the police via phone to explain the reasons behind the increased crimes of honour killings in the current years.

Sawsan has address tens of women's organisations in Netherlands to take an action to end this crime.

The action is continuing.
